Asbestos

Any building materials or buildings older than 1990 require asbestos testing before any removal or demolition.

If you suspect your property is affected, Delnor Restoration will take samples and test them through a third-party lab for analysis.

What is asbestos?

Wikipedia defines asbestos as “a naturally occurring fibrous silicate mineral. There are six types, all of which are composed of long and thin fibrous crystals, each fibre being composed of many microscopic "fibrils" that can be released into the atmosphere by abrasion and other processes. Inhalation of asbestos fibres can lead to various serious lung conditions, including mesothelioma, asbestosis, and lung cancer, so it is now notorious as a health and safety hazard.”

Due to health hazards, asbestos requires professional remediation and disposal. Experts at Delnor Restoration Services are trained to properly remove and dispose of asbestos.

Unfortunately, asbestos was a very common building material even around the Edmonton area through the latter part of the 20th century. Some building materials that may contain asbestos include:

  • Drywall joint compound
  • Popcorn ceiling texture
  • Plaster
  • Vinyl flooring or flooring tiles
  • Glue and adhesives
  • Vermiculite insulation
  • Pipe insulation
  • and more...

For any asbestos remediation project, or a restoration project where asbestos is suspected to be present, Delnor Restoration will conduct sample testing of the materials. If the results come back positive, we are mandated by the Government of Alberta to remove asbestos by following strict procedures. Removal of this product without following proper procedures can lead to hefty fines or even jail time.
